Awarding winning photographer exhibits new work

Emotion, abstraction and ambiguity are three focuses that Cardiff born photographer Gareth Phillips puts into every piece of work, and his latest exhibition is no exception.

Held at the Third Floor Gallery until October 25, Y Tir Newydd/The New Land is a powerful artistic translation of the furthest points of the Welsh landscape, which have been left untouched by the modern world. Award winning Gareth is widely recognised for his work, and this exhibition was born after he explored his homeland.

Gareth said: “Each location invoked various emotions; caves and forests at night invoking anxiety and fear, the coasts and mountains invoking elation and euphoria, all of which was then pushed into the project to create a visual pathway to these extreme points and emotions.”
