Lying on sheepskin rugs on the floor of Chapter Arts Centre are the audience, while two figures draped in wool sing, dance and chant around them.

Celtic Radical draw inspiration from traditional Celtic dances such as Irish ‘céilí’ and a type of Welsh Morris dancing called ‘nantgawr’
Siriol Joyner from Abergavenny and Ruairí, Donovan from Cork founded the group in 2008 and are both fluent in their native languages. Together, they interact with their audience by taking them by the hand and dancing with them around a Celtic-inspired studio.
“We reject the notion that languages are solely for spoken communication,” says Ruairí.
“The Need for Roots is a performance that physically involves our audience, and aims to draw energy from a shared past through dance and song.”
