Fashion Week showcasing local style?

This weekend marked the launch of the first ever Cardiff Fashion Week and although much is being done to showcase Cardiff style, independent retailers may not be feeling the benefits.

The event, which brings people into Cardiff from across the country, aims to display what director of the event, Clare Birt, calls “Cardiff across the board” balancing St David’s retail giants with independent outlets in Cardiff.

The inclusion of a retail award for ‘Independent of the year’ was made with this objective in mind.

However one shop owner, shortlisted for the award itself, still expressed concerns, stating, “I don’t think enough has been done to involve smaller independents. We haven’t had any contact from the organisers except to tell us we had been short listed.”
