Popera heads to Penarth

Popular café Hamptons will be hosting a classical crossover music night this month

Classical music is no longer just for the elite. Hamptons, an independent shop and café based in Penarth, are hosting a night of “Popera”, a classical crossover genre combining popular music and opera.

The performers, Samantha Link and Bruce Anderson, will sing a variety of rock, pop and musical numbers, all in a classical style. There will also be a smattering of popular Christmas songs given an operatic revamp.

Peter Knowles, who co-owns the store, said, “It’ll be much in the vein of performers like Katherine Jenkins or Russell Watson.”

Guests will be greeted with cocktails, and served a five-course meal during the show, including a main course of chicken and tarragon pie.

The performance will take place on 29 November, and tickets cost £35.
