Cardiff doubles for Oxford in new stills for Welsh filmed fantasy drama A Discovery of Witches.

Welsh made fantasy drama A Discovery of Witches has conjured three new still images of its cast on location.

The drama is a partnership between upstart Wales based production company Bad Wolf and Sky One and was filmed in Cardiff.

The show centres around an Oxford alchemy professor named Diana Bishop played by Teresa Palmer who falls in love with an elusive vampire played by Matthew Goode after rediscovering her own heritage.

It is based on a series of books by academic and author Deborah Harkness the first of which was published in 2011 and debuted at number 2 on the New York Times bestseller list.

The program was made with the help of the government department Wales Screen who assisted with providing studio space, crew and funding for the new drama.

“Wales Screen assists with scouting anywhere in Wales for any locations that a production may require as well as general desk-based research,” said Penny Skuse of Wales Screen when talking about their involvement in productions.

The show marks the first new production from Welsh company Bad Wolf which was formed by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, who had both previously worked within Wales on Doctor Who.

A Discovery of Witches is the latest in a slew of productions that are setting up in Wales with Hollywood bringing blockbusters like Transformers: The Last Knight and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword to various iconic locations around the country.

The images show off some of the locations for the show which created its elaborate version of Oxford at Wolf Studios on Cardiff Bay.

The program has been adapted for the screen by Kate Brooke (Mr Selfridge) and has been directed by Juan Carlos Medina.

A Discovery of Witches is due for release on Sky One in 2018.
