Welsh Music Prize returns for a third year

UntitledThe Welsh Music Prize (WMP), now in its third year, returns this week with a sold out show on Wednesday at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach. The awards ceremony follows on Thursday in the city’s Kuku Club.

Over a hundred jurors vote for their favourite album to make up the shortlist before a panel of 12 Welsh music industry experts chooses the overall winner.

Being shortlisted is an honour in itself and can help artists develop, as WMP administrator Marc Thomas explains: “They’ve all got different stages of their career which they’re at, one of the things that the Welsh Music Prize can do is help people move up to the next level.”

Last year’s award was won by alternative rockers Future of the Left.
