Takeaway restyles Asian food

A new Asian takeaway , Hokkei, is being opened on 10 November by MasterChef finalists Larkin Cen and Dale Williams.

Hokkei, which is located on Crwys Road, may join the street’s many takeaways, but it has no intention of blending in. With a concept based on ethical and fresh food, there will be no frozen meat or takeaway ‘tricks’ like using squash in the lemon chicken.

“The idea was to take a dish and completely rebuild it,” says Larkin, “It’s all about getting the customer to go ‘wow’. Sometimes that means going back to the traditional dish, or revamping an old concept.”

The duo hopes to refashion the image of asian food, which is too often associated with bad quality, by proving that healthy, ethical food can be served at a reasonable price.
