Sixty-year-old Gaynor Thompson raises £193 for breast cancer research.
It took passers by a second glance to believe what they saw was real. In the window of Tenovus charity shop on Albany Road in Cardiff on Saturday, Thompson’s hair was being shaved off, live!
In addition to the £193 raised for breast cancer research, Thompson also earned respect from admiring spectators. “Oh my god! She’s brave,” they awed.
Thompson showed no fear, “I feel fine,” she said, shortly before she became hairless. “I’m not nervous. I am happy about having it done. It’s a good cause.”
Afterwards, Thompson’s soft forehead received pats and kisses from admiring colleagues and friends.
October 2011 is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to statistics, 50,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year in the UK.
