Not only do the Welsh enjoy free prescriptions and subsidised tuition fees, but the <a title=\"March 2011 referendum\" href=\"http:\/\/wales.gov.uk\/legislation\/referendumpowers\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">March 2011 referendum<\/a> gave the Welsh government direct law-making powers in <a title=\"Welsh Assembly law-making powers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.assemblywales.org\/newhome\/press-area\/new-mediapack.htm\" target=\"_blank\">20 key areas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Welsh nationalist party Plaid Cymru said: \u201cIndependence is our long-term goal, but it\u2019s always going to be the people of Wales who decide how far on that journey towards independence they want to go.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welsh independence has never been on the mainstream agenda, but change could be afoot in view of recent developments in Scotland.
