{"id":17211,"date":"2013-10-21T13:08:40","date_gmt":"2013-10-21T13:08:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=17211"},"modified":"2015-10-07T10:45:20","modified_gmt":"2015-10-07T10:45:20","slug":"voxpop-tackling-binge-drinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/no-logo\/voxpop-tackling-binge-drinking","title":{"rendered":"Voxpop: Tackling binge drinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Prof. Simon Moore argues for a holistic approach to fighting the problem<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Beer-Bargains-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Beer Bargains small\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Beer-Bargains-small.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Much is needed to tackle Cardiff&#8217;s binge drinking reputation, according to a leading academic.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Simon Moore of the Violence and Society Research Group at Cardiff University believes change is needed at all levels in order to tackle bingeing and free the city from its unfortunate reputation for heavy drinking:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to challenge excessive drinking in licensed premises, when intoxicated patients turn up at hospital, in police custody suites and possibly in the workplace as well.\u201d He then added: \u201cWe also need to educate youngsters about alcohol from an early age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Various other solutions have been proposed, such as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/local-news\/expert-calls-late-night-levy-2497178\">late night levy<\/a> on drinking establishments serving alcohol between midnight and 6am, as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-wales-21802069\">filming<\/a> of drunken Cardiffians to remind them of their condition when they sober up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Much is needed to tackle Cardiff&#8217;s binge drinking reputation, according to a leading academic.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":119,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[4],"tags":[944,2856,249,1140,2877],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
