Literature Wales campaigns to promote youth literacy<\/h2>\n

Wales\u2019s first Young People\u2019s Laureate was named this month as part of a campaign to promote youth literacy in the nation.<\/p>\n

Catherine Fisher, an award-winning children\u2019s author and poet from Newport, was announced as laureate on Tuesday October 18.<\/p>\n

Literature Wales\u2019s acting chief executive Lleucu Siencyn says, \u201cWe wanted to create a post that was specifically for teenagers. They\u2019re certainly more difficult to reach and writing is way in which teenagers can express themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old former teacher and archaeologist is best known for her 2007 science fantasy novel Incarceron<\/em>, which has been optioned by Hollywood and is set for release in summer 2013. Siencyn says, \u201cTaylor Lautner is rumoured to be playing the lead. It\u2019s the next Twilight<\/em>. It\u2019s gonna be big!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
