{"id":22770,"date":"2014-10-29T20:41:42","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T20:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=22770"},"modified":"2015-10-07T10:43:18","modified_gmt":"2015-10-07T10:43:18","slug":"far-right-group-forced-off-cardiff-streets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/no-logo\/far-right-group-forced-off-cardiff-streets","title":{"rendered":"Far-right group forced out of Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anti-racist campaigners prevented far-right nationalists from marching through the city centre last Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Welsh Alliance&#8217;, previously known as the Welsh Defence League, had planned to march on City Hall in what they described as a protest against radical Islam. The presence of counter-demonstrators forced police to escort them out of the centre via Westgate Street, and through Bute Park.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_22883\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 480px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Main.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22883\" alt=\"'Welsh Alliance' march in Cardiff\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Main.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"312\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">South Wales Police had granted the group permission to march. They were escorted by a heavy police presence at all times.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Several of their members shouted Islamophobic abuse, and many were involved in a chant calling for Muslim &#8220;Paedos&#8221; to be removed from the streets.<\/p>\n<p>A standoff on St Mary Street caused concern for businesses. On learning of the group\u2019s chanting, restaurant worker Craig Lewis said, \u201cIt\u2019s something that the public and their children shouldn\u2019t be hearing\u2026 If I walked out my workplace now and started chanting racist slurs, I\u2019d probably get arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Welsh Defence League confronted over Islamophobia<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":119,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[4],"tags":[3845,1525,3843,3844],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
