The Punjabi Mehfil, a tri-monthly event celebrating Punjabi culture, has recently experienced a steep rise in popularity. The Mehfil started out in 2008 mainly as a poetry event but has since expanded to cover all manner of cultural prose and has recently relocated to the Millennium Centre to account for the extra numbers.<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s organiser Mr Channi Kaler said, \u201cEverybody contributes something to the event, somebody sings, somebody tells a joke, it is a way people can come and carry out their own skill.\u201d Attendances were low in the first two years but it was when Mr Kaler first started encouraging those from the Pakistani as well as the Indian Punjabi community to get involved that the group began to grow so rapidly.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
