{"id":27634,"date":"2015-11-04T19:49:05","date_gmt":"2015-11-04T19:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=27634"},"modified":"2015-11-11T12:58:10","modified_gmt":"2015-11-11T12:58:10","slug":"third-sector-unites-against-bedroom-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/no-logo\/third-sector-unites-against-bedroom-tax","title":{"rendered":"Third sector unites against bedroom tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A coalition of housing charities, church and campaign organizations have joined forces against the bedroom tax.<\/p>\n<p>Cardiff &amp; South Wales Against the Bedroom Tax, which unites Shelter Cymru, Welsh Tenants, TPAS Cymru and the Church in Wales, has started an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.assembly.wales\/en\/gethome\/e-petitions\/Pages\/petitiondetail.aspx?PetitionID=869\">online petition<\/a>\u00a0urging the Welsh Government to subsidise the tax.<\/p>\n<p>Best estimates indicate the operation would cost Welsh taxpayers around \u00a317 million.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27637\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 480px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Paul-Bevan-RS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27637\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Paul-Bevan-RS-480x270.jpg\" alt=\"A protester demostrating against the bedroom tax in London. Image: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pabevan\/8646091188\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Bevan<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The coalition says they are aware of the budgetary challenges posed by central government cuts, but believe that mitigating the tax is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Campaign co-ordinator Jamie Insole says, \u201cThe tax is not just hitting vulnerable groups like single parents, disabled and mentally ill.
