Albany Gallery<\/a> is celebrating its 50th birthday with an exhibition that features more than 70 artists.<\/p>\n

Their anniversary roster<\/a> includes artists new and old \u2013 some of whom had their debuts on those very walls.<\/p>\n

The respected two-storey gallery is packed with paintings, sculptures and ceramics from local artists<\/p><\/div>\n

Albany Gallery has become the cornerstone of contemporary art in Cardiff since its opening in 1965, promoting fresh talent and providing a platform for the burgeoning art scene in Wales.<\/p>\n

In fact, its owner Mary Yapp was agent for\u00a0Sir Kyffin Williams, who went on to become a defining Welsh artist of the 20th century. \u201cLittle did I know when I opened the gallery in Albany Road that it would still be here 50 years later,\u201d says Yapp.<\/p>\n

Caroline, who works at the gallery, says they strive to create a welcoming atmosphere that isn\u2019t stuffy or stuck up, as some art galleries may be<\/p><\/div>\n

Visitors can go home with a masterpiece from David Tress or William Selwyn, or buy one from the many promising newcomers the gallery handpicks and nurtures.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to promote the best Welsh art, from well-established artists to exciting newcomers,\u201d Yapp adds.<\/p>\n
