{"id":34278,"date":"2016-11-29T12:15:12","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T12:15:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=34278"},"modified":"2017-10-24T10:52:26","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T10:52:26","slug":"music-in-the-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/uncategorized\/music-in-the-museum","title":{"rendered":"Musical Portraits make an impression"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest in a series of performances that\u00a0place music at the heart of National Museum Wales, <a href=\"https:\/\/museum.wales\/cardiff\/whatson\/9254\/Musical-Portraits-3\/\" target=\"_blank\">Musical Portraits 3 <\/a>brings together impressionist artwork and music from\u00a0the period in which these artists were painting.<\/p>\n<p>Impressionism developed as a movement in painting towards the end of the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and so guests at this concert can expect to hear music which was written and performed during the same era. Works by composers such as Chopin, Liszt, Alkan and John Ireland will all be performed by concert pianist, Kenneth Hamilton.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2iOqGEP3WAQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kenneth is widely renowned for his skill yet has said that he only began playing because his grandmother happened to have acquired a piano. However, he took to it like a \u201cfish to water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also a writer, broadcaster, and Head of Music at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/music\" target=\"_blank\">Cardiff University<\/a>, Kenneth specialises in 19<sup>th<\/sup> and 20<sup>th<\/sup> century music and has even made several television appearances. His most recent book explores the differences between the past and the present in concert life which are now united in this highly immersive recital.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34330\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 480px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Music_Week-10_AS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34330\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Music_Week-10_AS.jpg\" alt=\"Kenneth Hamilton has been playing the piano since he was 10 years old and now performs at National Museum Wales\" width=\"480\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Music_Week-10_AS.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Music_Week-10_AS-468x312.jpg 468w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kenneth Hamilton has been playing the piano since he was 10 years old and now performs at National Museum Wales<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Eleri Evans, learning manager at <a href=\"https:\/\/museum.wales\/cardiff\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Museum Wales<\/a>, explains that the recital, and accompanying talk about the museums extensive impressionist collection, is part of a wider programme which aims to introduce music to the museum.<\/p>\n<p>Events such as the Musical Portraits recital taking place on Friday 2 December are making classical music more accessible in the city.
