Gwdihw Caf\u00e9 and Bar connects with a business in India to provide an international platform for LGBT+ performers and artists \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Suryatapa Mukherjee, the organiser of the fundraiser, hosted the event and also performed several of her own poems.<\/p><\/div>\n

Gwdihw <\/span>Caf\u00e9<\/span> and Bar<\/span><\/a> has networked with an Indian <\/span>caf\u00e9<\/span> as a way to provide an international platform for LGBT+ and <\/span>Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME)<\/span> artists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through a fundraising event held at the live music venue on Sunday 19 November, a range of BAME and LGBT+ artists performed and raised a total of <\/span>\u00a3336.59<\/span> for the <\/span>Amra Odbhuth <\/span>Caf\u00e9<\/span><\/a> in India who are currently struggling financially to remain open. <\/span><\/p>\n

Suryatapa Mukherjee, the organiser of the fundraiser, said: \u201cI am very passionate about causes close to the LGBT+ community, especially in India. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI belong to that community myself and <\/span>Amra Odbhuth<\/span> is providing a safe space to the LGBT+ community in Kolkata while also promoting LGBT+ artists. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think it is an absolutely necessary space to have.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Suryatapa went onto say that she feels a great deal of support from the Cardiff BAME and <\/span>LGBT+<\/span><\/a> community, as well as from people who are not as associated with such causes but wish to give their support by enjoying the great line-up. <\/span><\/p>\n

Nandini Moitra, founder of Amra Odbhuth <\/span>Caf\u00e9<\/span>, said: \u201dAmra Odbhuth <\/span>Caf\u00e9<\/span> started with a need for more readily accessible queer spaces, a space dedicated to queer artistry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs for the folks in Cardiff,\u201d Nandini continued, \u201cwe are really overwhelmed with gratitude because so many folks have stepped up to perform and make this event possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Nandini expressed her wish to use the future income of the <\/span>caf\u00e9 to <\/span>invite LGBT+ artists and performers from all over the world to perform and hold LGBT+ art exhibitions and events in the <\/span>caf\u00e9<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe think this event at Cardiff is a good place to figure out how well our purpose speaks to a larger community and if we can look forward to larger self-sustainable LGBT+ networks everywhere,\u201d Nandini concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n
