{"id":43313,"date":"2018-11-06T14:39:49","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T14:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=43313"},"modified":"2018-11-06T14:39:49","modified_gmt":"2018-11-06T14:39:49","slug":"youngsters-keep-welsh-traditions-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/culture\/youngsters-keep-welsh-traditions-alive","title":{"rendered":"Youngsters keep Welsh traditions alive"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Welsh Folk Dancing Group based in Cardiff sees the participation of young people in traditional Welsh activities as integral to keeping the culture alive<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditional Welsh dancing company, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cwmni Dawns Werin Caerdydd<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is hoping more young people will get involved in Welsh activities to promote the language and culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company, who operate in the Welsh language, have members spanning three different generations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This wide range of ages allows for a handing down of traditions and values between families and friends, as the company\u2019s secretary, Rhian Myhre says.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43314\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 960px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-43314 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/318231_122857601185314_1446445159_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"642\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/318231_122857601185314_1446445159_n.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/318231_122857601185314_1446445159_n-467x312.jpg 467w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/318231_122857601185314_1446445159_n-768x514.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Dancers of all ages can enjoy at Cwmni Dawns Werin Caerdydd.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 40-strong dance troupe see the maintenance of traditional Welsh arts like dancing as integral to the survival of Welsh language and culture. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Welsh folk dancing, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dawnsio Gwerin<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Welsh, is an activity especially popular with young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rhian says: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of our dances are energetic, so youth is always welcome as, apart from anything else, they look better when performed. Essentially though, the reason why it&#8217;s important that young people are involved in a tradition like dancing is that it&#8217;s great fun and very sociable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reaching out to young people and ensuring they become involved in these activities will provide a link to Welsh heritage which allows them to feel connected to their language and culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Involvement in such group activities not only encourages use of the Welsh language but also enriches their lives and gives young people a more rounded attitude to life, Rhian says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other companies share this view of Dawnsio Gwerin as a fulfilling pastime which improves the lives of young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43315\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 960px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-43315 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n-416x312.jpg 416w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/31925151_1073802609424137_8381758295962025984_n-800x600.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Dawnsio Gwerin is energetic and inclusive.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Bain, a 22 year-old former member of <em>Dawnsio Tawerin<\/em>, based in the Swansea Valley, remarked: \u201cI\u2019ve never felt more a part of something than I did when I was doing Dawnsio Gwerin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The success of organisations such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cwmni Dawns Werin Caerdydd\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in encouraging young people towards the Welsh language will be a key factor in ensuring the Welsh government\u2019s pledge to create a million Welsh speakers by 2050 becomes a reality.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Welsh Folk Dancing Group based in Cardiff sees the participation of young people in traditional Welsh activities as integral to keeping the culture alive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":184,"featured_media":43318,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[12,19],"tags":[148,100,12107,11260,12163],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
