{"id":45779,"date":"2018-11-20T08:00:02","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T08:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=45779"},"modified":"2018-11-20T14:34:30","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T14:34:30","slug":"cardiff-hosts-bigmoose-supertri-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/business\/cardiff-hosts-bigmoose-supertri-3","title":{"rendered":"Cardiff hosts Bigmoose Supertri 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Bigmoose is running its 3rd Supertri, a triathlon for disabled children, where there&#8217;s no rules or times, just fun and inclusion<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_45818\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 623px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-45818 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/bigmoose-e1542645349432.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"467\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event is still open for children and volunteers to sign up<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bigmoose is hosting its 3rd Supertri event at Cardiff Metropolitan University on 23 December.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event is a triathlon for disabled children, where there are no rules or winners, just a day of fun and inclusion for all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two Paralympians, Jordan Howe and Kyron Duke are confirmed to be in attendance to give out medals to the children involved. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, over 100 disabled children are taking part in the swim, cycle and run. In addition, over 120 people have volunteered to support the children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9iCtRKavG50\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jeff Smith started Bigmoose after losing his best friend Gary &#8216;Moose&#8217; Cloonan to cancer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chloe Smith, Jeff\u2019s daughter who&#8217;s also heavily involved with the charity, explained Bigmoose&#8217;s aim is &#8220;to encourage people to live better, healthier, kinder lives.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, Chloe opened Bigmoose Coffee Co, as an extension of Bigmoose, to tackle homelessness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This time last year, Chloe got the keys to what would become her social enterprise. The coffee shop is a non-profit business working partnership with Llamau, a homeless charity for young people and women.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_45819\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 623px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-45819\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_5916.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"623\" height=\"467\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bigmoose Coffee Co is located on 4-5 Frederick Street, Cardiff<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chloe said, &#8220;we want to help, support and mentor people affected by homelessness. We do this by putting them through training and courses in barista skills or kitchen skills\/baking.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each homeless employee trained to their passion within the business. Their current homeless employee in loves working with the coffee machine and has therefore been given barista training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.llamau.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Llamau<\/a> estimates every year in the UK 150,000 people aged 16-25 ask for help with homelessness, and 7,000 of them are in Wales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social enterprises such as Bigmoose Coffee Co aim to be a hand-up, rather than a handout.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also, the coffee shop prides itself on paying all employees the national living wage.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month they had First Minister Carwyn Jones in to officially announce the new real living wage.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe describes her long-term goal as \u201ceradicating homelessness in Cardiff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bigmoose is running its 3rd Supertri, a triathlon for disabled children, where there&#8217;s no rules or times, just fun and inclusion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":168,"featured_media":45851,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[11491],"tags":[10833,12276,12283,12288,12281,12282],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
