A local dance company is hoping to secure \u00a32 million of funding to turn a former public library into a community dance studio<\/span><\/h2>\n

An empty former library in Roath is set to be transformed into a dance studio by a local dance centre.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Adamstown based centre, Rubicon Dance<\/a>, applied to take over the old library site to expand their studios in late 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n

The community dance centre has been running subsidised dance classes in Cardiff for over 30 years and secured the formerly council-owned premises in Roath earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The refurbishment of the library been selected to compete with other causes to win \u00a325,0000 by the Aviva Community Fund<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Projects entered into Aviva\u2019s funding competition will have to secure the most votes from the general public before they are judged by a panel of experts for their suitability for the funding. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Aviva funding is only the beginning of Rubicon\u2019s fundraising efforts, said the centre\u2019s coordinator, Adam Lloyd-Binding.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to be in there in 2020,\u201d said Adam, \u201cthere\u2019s a full refurb needed, it\u2019s the roof, windows, floors. It\u2019s basically a shell of a building.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The project needs \u00a32 million of donations to transform the space, Adam said some of the cash will \u201chopefully\u201d come from the Heritage Lottery Fund<\/a>, charitable events and bag packing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rubicon Dance aims to give Cardiff what it needs to become more active, said Adam.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to a report by Public Health England<\/a>, physical inactivity costs the UK \u00a37.4 billion annually.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rubicon hopes that the new dance studios can help them to expand their already fully booked classes and encourage local people to be more active.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam said: \u201cwe are contributing to improving the health of Cardiff as a whole.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

The new studios will hold classes for all ages from toddlers aged 18 months to elderly people in care homes.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
