{"id":46385,"date":"2018-11-27T14:34:57","date_gmt":"2018-11-27T14:34:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=46385"},"modified":"2018-12-03T18:30:37","modified_gmt":"2018-12-03T18:30:37","slug":"disability-sports-bring-home-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/active\/disability-sports-bring-home-gold","title":{"rendered":"Disability sports bring home gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Disability Sports Wales project for both disabled and non-disabled participants will win a new award at the Wales Sport Awards<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_46387\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 800px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-46387\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GOGA.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GOGA.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GOGA-416x312.jpg 416w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GOGA-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/GOGA-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Get Out, Get Active brings together those with and without disabilities<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wales Sport Awards take place next week at Celtic Manor Resort, and Disability Sport Wales will bring home their second award in two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Tuesday 4 November, the awards see BBC Cymru Wales and Sport Wales host the country\u2019s biggest sporting celebration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to Lifetime Achievement and Coach of the Year awards, BBC will award the Sports Personality of the Year Award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A new award for 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get Out, Get Active (GOGA), a programme from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.disabilitysportwales.com\">Disability Sport Wales<\/a> (DSW), has been tipped to win the inaugural Getting Wales Active award. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DSW also brought home the Organisation of the Year Award in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GOGA runs across Rhondda Cynon Taf, Pembrokeshire and Wrexham, and prides itself on getting Welsh people moving.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, the project sees people with and without disabilities taking part in sports together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disability Sports in Cardiff<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FcEHUiiAJY8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The judging panel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The judges were picked from across the Welsh sporting scene, and range in age, gender, race, disability and sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 25, James Ledger is the second youngest on the panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is a visually-impaired 100 metre sprinter for Wales and Great Britain who also sits on the Disability Sport Wales National Youth Board.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI had the opportunity to judge due to my elite sporting background,\u201d said\u00a0<\/span>James.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut also because of the work I do with Disability Sport Wales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOur aim is to be the voice for young people with a disability in Wales.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judging the awards was a dream for James. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI couldn\u2019t wait to hear some of the incredible sporting stories coming out of Wales,&#8221; he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added: \u201cIt filled me with pride.
