Learning Disability Wales will host their 2019 conference in Newport next month, advocating those with learning disabilities being \u201cseen, heard, valued and included\u201d <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Welsh charity Learning Disability Wales will host their annual conference on 6 November in Newport, promoting greater inclusion of people with an intellectual disability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be a mixture of presentations and workshops, emphasising to those in South Wales with learning difficulties the importance and achievability of being involved and succeeding in all areas of society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simon Rose, training and events manager at Learning Disability Wales, said, \u201cWe hope it will encourage people to see how they themselves are seen, heard, valued and included.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It isn\u2019t just for people with learning difficulties themselves, however. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another theme will be educating those working alongside or for people with learning difficulties who, as Simon said, also have a role in supporting greater inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to learning disability charity MENCAP, only 2 in every 10 people with mild to moderate learning difficulties are in employment, a figure which drops to 6 in 100 for those with a severe disability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MENCAP<\/a> says this is partly due to a lack of employer understanding about the potential of those with learning difficulties, as well as a general lack of skill and confidence development for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning Disability Wales therefore aim to educate colleagues, teachers and carers as to how they can put adequate support and development in place in either a working or educational environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be workshops providing digital training and advice about social networking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers will include the Welsh Youth Parliament<\/a> and Councillor Sara Pickard<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference, Right Here, will be held on 6 November at the Coldra Holiday Inn, Newport. Tickets, pricing and an event programme are available via the Learning Disability Wales website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right Here will also be held in Llanrwst, North Wales, on 14 November, featuring a question and answer with Julie Morgan AM, Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
