{"id":47974,"date":"2019-10-18T21:17:20","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T21:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=47974"},"modified":"2019-10-22T13:09:55","modified_gmt":"2019-10-22T13:09:55","slug":"a-relaxing-afternoon-at-the-cinema-to-watch-judy-for-people-with-dementia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/culture\/a-relaxing-afternoon-at-the-cinema-to-watch-judy-for-people-with-dementia","title":{"rendered":"A relaxing afternoon at the cinema to watch Judy, for people with dementia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3> A film screening in a relaxing environment is open to anyone living with dementia at a cinema in Canton <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The needs of people suffering from dementia are at the forefront of a screening of the new release, <em>Judy, <\/em>at Chapter in Canton this Friday.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The screening will have the sound turned down quieter than usual, slightly brighter lighting and there will be soft subtitles on screen.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adverts and trailers will not be included and there will be wheelchair access.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ellie, who works at the theatre, said that Chapter: \u201cTend to choose a film that fits in with a sense of nostalgia or something that would generally chime with an older audience.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theatre company work with mental health nurses to \u201cprogramme a dementia-friendly screening usually about once a month.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also have other relaxed-environment screenings that are not just for dementia sufferers, but for people who have other accessibility issues, said Ellie.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new release, being shown at 2pm on Friday 18 October, is an autobiographical tribute to the actress Judy Garland.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mental health nurse, Catherine Gornall, said that dementia is on the rise and there is a need for it to be managed within the community. She explained that more events like this are needed in Cardiff.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHospitals and GP\u2019s are overwhelmed with complications of managing those living with dementia, especially because families and friends are usually left to care for them, without adequate support.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe amount of people living with dementia is expected to triple by 2050.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theatre company hold the dementia-friendly screenings to create a relaxed atmosphere for those with the condition, where the audience may be noisy and leave easily if necessary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open to the general public, the special showings are aimed at anyone living with dementia, so would make an ideal afternoon spent with a loved one.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is an opportunity at the end to socialise along with tea and coffee, included in the ticket price of \u00a34.50 and carers can book their tickets for free.<br>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">Visit<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapter.org\/\"> www.chapter.org<\/a> to book and find more information. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> A film screening in a relaxing environment is open to anyone living with dementia at a cinema in Canton<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":199,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[12],"tags":[388,12482,524,1741,286,2395,11183,283],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
