Curious minds and beverage aficionados<\/a> will get to discover the intricacies of whisky this 13 November as Wally\u2019s Delicatessen<\/a> holds a special masterclass from 3-6pm.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Penderyn<\/a> whiskies will be the star of this session, during which people will get to taste at least six variants and learn about the art of whisky at Wally\u2019s Royal Arcade shop<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stewart Meyer, manager at Wally\u2019s Delicatessen, said, \u201cWith this masterclass, people will get an in-depth view of the process of whisky making.”  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Penderyn whiskies take their uniqueness in the casks they are aged in \u2013 sherry casks. \u201cWelsh whisky cannot be aged 8, 10 years like Scottish whisky can be,\u201d said Stewart, \u201cso they focused on having a fantastic flavour.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the thought of drinking Welsh whisky might have surprised not so long ago, taking part in the growth of the national market is now a question of Welsh pride. Stewart added, \u201cIt\u2019s also always good to support local businesses.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if newcomers\u00a0like\u00a0D\u00e0\u00a0Mh\u00ecle\u00a0Distillery<\/a>\u00a0are starting to pop in the market,\u00a0Stewart commented,\u00a0\u201cPenderyn flies high.\u201d\u00a0As Wally\u2019s Delicatessen offers their full range, which cannot be found everywhere, the shop\u2019s higher sells are without a doubt Penderyn whiskies. Stewart added, \u201cTheir new \u2018Rich Oak\u2019 is a favourite.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of Welsh whisky is however not limited to Wales as it is gaining global recognition. Indeed, on 22 October, Penderyn\u2019s Madeira Single Cask Edition was named \u2018European Whisky of the Year\u2019 by whisky expert Jim Murray.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stephen Davies, CEO of Penderyn, talked to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) about the market\u2019s growth<\/a> last June. \u201cDemand for our products is increasing year on year,\u201d he said, \u201cPenderyn\u2019s sales went up by 17% in 2018, and we now export to around 40 different countries.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
