{"id":51041,"date":"2019-11-12T13:02:47","date_gmt":"2019-11-12T13:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=51041"},"modified":"2019-11-12T13:07:24","modified_gmt":"2019-11-12T13:07:24","slug":"pub-theatre-to-take-on-a-new-tour-of-wales-to-expand-popularity-around-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/culture\/pub-theatre-to-take-on-a-new-tour-of-wales-to-expand-popularity-around-the-country","title":{"rendered":"Pub theatre to take on new tour of Wales to increase popularity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3>The Other Room will embark on a new tour of Wales with a Violence Series aimed at increasing the theatre&#8217;s popularity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"534\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/OTHER-ROOM-main-image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51043\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/OTHER-ROOM-main-image.jpg 534w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/OTHER-ROOM-main-image-417x312.jpg 417w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/OTHER-ROOM-main-image-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><figcaption>Ruth Ollman and Chris Gordon in <em>American Nightmare<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Other Room is organising a tour of Wales which will aim to expand the theatre\u2019s popularity around Wales.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pub theatre from Cardiff, based in Porter\u2019s, will be taking its new Violence Series to four different locations in Wales and a three-day visit to London where it will begin.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan Jones, 28, artistic director at The Other Room said that despite being a Welsh theatre based in Cardiff they seemed to have a better profile in the capital city of the UK.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, their win at The Stage&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestage.co.uk\/news\/2016\/the-stage-awards-2016-winners-announced\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Awards<\/a> 2016 for Fringe theatre of the year made them very popular among Londoners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c`Every year, we usually have seasons following a unifying theme and we have plays all around a particular topic.\u201d He said, \u201cI started to think of them as a sort of live anthology seasons and it was years ago when I started conceptualising the Violence Series.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s series consists of three plays,&nbsp;<em>American Nightmare, The Story&nbsp;<\/em>and<em>Hela,&nbsp;<\/em>which explore different instances of violence and conflict, one of which,&nbsp;<em>Hela,&nbsp;<\/em>is a bilingual play where the main actors speak only in Welsh and the English language is integrated into the story through different mediums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am really proud of doing&nbsp;<em>Hela<\/em>in Welsh in London as well. We have tried to build in a device into the play that translates in real time through piece of the technology that becomes kind of a third character,\u201d he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Other Room shows its pride in being a Welsh independent theatre and supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/culture\/cardiff-theatres-actively-helping-young-aspiring-playwrights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Welsh community  (opens in a new tab)\">Welsh community <\/a>and language, but not only.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan concluded, \u201cthere has been a lot of talk about making sure that theatre companies from Wales are using Welsh actors, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s about being Welsh, it\u2019s about being here and being invested in the community.
