A Pontcanna based Danish bakery is expanding to a new premises in Penarth and offering apprenticeships in baking<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BR\u00d8D’s current location on Wyndham Rd, Pontcanna, is a popular culinary attraction<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Award winning Danish bakery, BR\u00d8D, is capitalising upon its success in Pontcanna by expanding into a second premises in Penarth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The venture is currently recruiting for two positions at the original store, while the new location will soon need staffing too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that the business<\/a> is bringing numerous jobs to the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparations for BR\u00d8D’s new location on Glebe St, Penarth, look well underway, with the wooden boarding already up<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

There is also a baking apprenticeship, which will give young people the skills to become professional bakers, Danish style, and perhaps go on to win awards of their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy dream and goal when I started this business was to bring more artisan bakers to the industry\u201d said Betina Skovbro, BR\u00d8D\u2019s founder and owner, in a recent news update<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While hospitality apprenticeships in Cardiff rose 126%<\/a> between academic years 2016\/17 and 2017\/18, that only represents a numeric rise of 75 roles in a city of over 300,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In such a context, BR\u00d8D\u2019s yearly offering of an apprenticeship is undoubtedly good news for the Cardiff economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Economics aside, BR\u00d8D also provides a gastronomic benefit to Cardiff by adding to its ever-increasing culinary diversity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This has benefitted them in return, as it\u2019s their combination of authentic Danish cuisine and British cafe culture which pulls in the punters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Karin Wahl-Jorgeson, a director of Cardiff University and herself a Dane, said, \u201cmost Danish bakeries are just shops where you can pick up baked pastries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut BR\u00d8D is a British version of an increasingly popular model of bakery cafe where you can have pastries and a nice cup of coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt has lots of delicious pastries that are just like the ones you get in Denmark, and that are impossible to find anywhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy Danish cousin, who lived in Cambridge, would make special pilgrimages to BR\u00d8D and would bring home huge boxes of pastries.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
