(All pictures courtesy of Amazing Grace Spaces)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Take part in the World\u2019s Biggest Sleep Out, in solidarity with the homeless sleeping out in these winter conditions, with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/422588398370807\/\" target=\"_blank\">Amazing Grace\u2019s event<\/a> on 7 December in Newport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will take place in Rodney Place. Local artists such as Ollie P and Shantz will be performing, said Ashley, and refreshments and a game room will be available throughout the night. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From neighbouring Cardiff to far-away cities such as Brisbane and Manila, Newport joins dozens of cities in the world in this common effort to raise money for registered charities.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sleep Outs began <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/social-bite.co.uk\/sleep-in-the-park\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Scotland<\/a> in 2017 and is now evolving with the World&#8217;s Biggest Sleep Out as the homeless crisis worsens. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wallich <a href=\"https:\/\/thewallich.com\/roughsleepingfigures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">reported<\/a> an average of 34 homeless people helped a day in Cardiff and 28 in Newport \u2013 this was in July 2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With winter settling, worries build up as The Guardian <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2019\/oct\/01\/homeless-deaths-in-2018-rise-at-highest-level-ons?fbclid=IwAR3J2VHqQHnMajR3BHL6PTiTopgQxSwkdZNtJxm1PuCkHpehFBrLEXJVvm0\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> a 22% rise in homelessness. At least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2018\/apr\/23\/at-least-78-homeless-people-died-in-uk-over-winter-figures-reveal?fbclid=IwAR2RcgjOJK0K8v30WqDpLjiftleeElz1wPxrqMljtjBP4hVsZ3A3ugAI2oE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">78 people<\/a> died in 2018 and more is to be expected in 2019. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley concluded, \u201cAll projects help go towards helping either currently homeless people or people that would be made homeless.\u201d<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join Helen Mirren and Will Smith in this fundraiser as Newport gets involved for the homeless with the World&#8217;s Biggest Sleep Out<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":196,"featured_media":51440,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[4,10],"tags":[12880,12550,12433,4079,84,1384,2850,3611],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.9 -
