Aspiring poets were welcomed to try out their works during an open mic session at the end of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew Haigh, co-organiser of CRASH, said: \u201cWe started this night because, even though there is a poetry scene here in Cardiff, I think the type of poetry that I write and enjoy doesn\u2019t have a platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at promoting a more alternative scene of experimental and imaginative poetry. Something that\u2019s at the fringe of what\u2019s going on in contemporary, mainstream poetry at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthew continued to say that the event was created for poets to feel they are in a safe space to experiment and not worry about their work being polished and ready for performance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CRASH-800x600-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CRASH-800x600-4.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CRASH-800x600-4-416x312.jpg 416w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CRASH-800x600-4-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/CRASH-800x600-4-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>Matthew Haigh, co-organiser of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CRASHcardiff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"CRASH (opens in a new tab)\">CRASH<\/a>, performed some of his works including adaptations of US crime drama, <em>Murder, She Wrote<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Vik Shirley, a poet from Bristol, kicked off the evening with a selection of dark yet humorous readings, including poems titled <em>I fell in love with a Braun electric shaver <\/em>and <em>It was finally time to get myself a serial killer<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next to take the stage was Matthew himself, who performed his collection of adaptations based on the US crime drama series, <em>Murder, She Wrote.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a short break, experimental poet and digital artist James Knight entertained the crowd with readings from his collection titled <em>Void Voices, <\/em>a reimagining of the epic 14th century poem <em>Inferno <\/em>by Dante Alighieri. He also tested out some of his new material on audience members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last poet to share her work before the open mic session was Sarah Cave, from Bodmin. \u201cI\u2019ve been writing poems for around six years. I went to university to do an English degree and I became addicted to poetry,\u201d she said. \u201cI did an MA and now I\u2019m doing a PhD &#8211; it\u2019s my whole life!
