Every year children, families and older people face a bleak Christmas Image: Amanda Lockwood<\/p><\/div>\n

The Salvation Army is asking the public to donate new, unwrapped gifts and toys for children of all ages until Friday 16 December.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More than 150,000 gifts were donated and distributed last year as part of the Christmas Present Appeal, and the charity is anticipating an even greater demand this Christmas.<\/p>\n

“Thanks to the generous support of the public, many local families in need in the UK have benefited from the gifts donated to The Salvation Army\u2019s Christmas Present Appeal,” says Lieut-Colonel Marion Drew, The Salvation Army\u2019s Secretary for Communications.<\/p>\n
