{"id":6917,"date":"2011-11-29T13:22:06","date_gmt":"2011-11-29T13:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/?p=6917"},"modified":"2015-10-07T10:55:39","modified_gmt":"2015-10-07T10:55:39","slug":"paintings-influenced-by-welsh-mythology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jomec.co.uk\/altcardiff\/culture\/paintings-influenced-by-welsh-mythology","title":{"rendered":"Paintings influenced by Welsh mythology"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>David Jones\u2019 art collection comes to Cardiff<\/h2>\n<p>David Jones was a twentieth century British artist inspired by the powerful influences of landscape, language and myths of Wales.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"National Museum Wales\" href=\"http:\/\/www.museumwales.ac.uk\/en\/5\/?article_id=708\">National Museum Wales<\/a> is hosting an exhibition of primarily Jones&#8217; watercolour artwork up until 4 March 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Born of a Welsh father, Jones spent time in Wales as a pupil to artist-craftsmen <a title=\"Eric Gill\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ericgill.com\/\">Eric Gill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jones\u2019s inspiration from the Welsh landscape entwined with Arthurian legend is captured best in his vision of Breconshire in the painting Capel-y-ffin.
