Cardiff gears up for Winter Wonderland

The finishing touches are being put to Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland in preparation for its opening

Cathays Park is undergoing its Christmas transformation

The Cardiff Christmas lights have been switched on and the seasonal shopping rush has begun. Now the finishing touches to the Welsh capital’s Winter Wonderland are being finalised in preparation for its 17 November opening.

The winter-time event, now in its 11th year, offers the ever-popular Admiral Open Air ice skating rink and a host of other attractions in the city’s civic centre, Cathays Park. The event will run until 6 January 2012.

Cardiff resident Gwenllian Jones, a regular visitor to the Winter Wonderland, recommends going early as it gets packed by the evenings. She said, “I think it’s a great attraction that brings family and friends together at this festive time.  I enjoy the ice skating, the atmosphere and, most of all, the mulled wine!”
