What should network companies do? What should customers do?
Lately, several students received huge bills after mobile phone theft. Network companies said they refused to take responsibility because “the customer didn’t report the loss immediately.”
Susan, who had never lost her phone before, suggested that companies should set up a pin to unlock the phone for expensive international calls.
Network companies should cap the phone bill like banks do, said Jingjie Zhao, an undergraduate student.
Advices were also given by network companies and phone shops. O2 offers insurance, but customers still need to contact the company within 48 hours of losing a phone.
For iPhone users, a Genius said, “We advise our customers to install an app named ‘Find My iPhone’ on another Apple device; it can locate and lock your phone.”
