A new interactive bilingual sex and relationship education programme for nine and ten year old children has been launched in Gwynedd.
This programme called “Growing up” which is a web-based programme and launched by Public Health Wales. It aims to reduce teenage conception rates in North Wales by educating the next generation and provide accurate, age appropriate information for children in order to avoid mixed messages.
Teacher can use the programme to deliver the whole aspects of sex and relationships education in primary schools. It is envisaged that the new resources will soon be available in all primary and special schools across Wales.
Judith Roberts, Senior Gwynedd Healthy Schools Practitioner for Public Health Wales said, Evidence shows that children who receive high quality sex and relationships education from an early age are more likely to abstain from sex until their older.
