Take a Seat: The Benches of Roath Park Provide a Pause from Cardiff City Life

If you stroll around Roath Park you will probably notice the tennis courts, the lighthouse and the gardens, but what about its most overlooked contribution?

The benches of Roath Park are the perfect location to absorb the sunshine on an autumn afternoon.

As you wander around Roath Park, you may not have noticed the many memorial benches set in honour of loved ones. Spaces, perhaps, for quiet contemplation. But today these benches are also a site of laughter, as college students gather to eat their lunches. The Made in Roath arts event has come to a close and a volunteer, Nick, pauses beside the bowling-green. Down on the open lawns Lynda plays with her affectionate puppy, Belle, smiling as other dog-walkers pass by. Each bench provides a pause; one you may pass alone, share with friends or spend with your dog amongst the grounds.

Made in Roath volunteer, Nick, has been making badges as part of the local craft event.

Lynda Edwards was on the southern lawns of the park with her puppy, “I came here today with her, this is Belle. She just loves attention.”

The tranquility and nature of Roath Lake makes for breath-taking respite from the hustle of the city.
