For the love of plants: putting Cardiff’s vegan cafes on the map

As veganism is becoming more mainstream, no wonder barely a week goes by without a new  vegan cafe hitting our highstreets!

Every year hundreds of thousands of Brits sign up for Veganuary, pledging to eat vegan for a month.

Interest in veganism increased a lot in the five years between 2014 and 2019, according to Google trends, with Cardiff being the fourth most popular city for mainstream vegan cafes in 2019. It now gets almost four times more interest than vegetarian and gluten-free searches.

This trend research explains the number of vegan cafes  and restaurants that continue to pop up around the UK.

“Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose,” says The Vegan Society

Sainsbury’s has already seen a 24% rise in customers searching for vegan products online and a 65% increase in sales of plant-based products year-on-year, as customers increasingly consider a vegan, vegetarian or flexitarian lifestyle.
