Get a flavour of Chinese martial art at Cardiff University Global Week

A Lunch Time Tai Chi session by Confucius Institute at Cardiff University joined the 2017 Global Week to promote culture sharing.

The Tai Chi session took place at the Studio49 in ParkPlace 49.

Students from around the world got to try the ancient art of Tai Chi during an event running as part of Cardiff University’s Global Week.
The 30-minute Lunch Time Tai Chi session, organized by Cardiff University Student Support Team and Confucius Institute, featured a brief introduction of Tai Chi and a slow sequence of movements which emphasize a straight spine and abdominal breathing.
“Tai Chi is the ancient form of Chinese martial art,” said Bintian Li, staff from Confucius Institute who taught Tai Chi this time, “and we hope students and staffs can get a flavor of Chinese traditional culture through this experience.”
As a form of martial art, Tai Chi helps to improve one’s mental and physical health through a slow sequence of movements.

Kirstem, a UK student majoring in language and linguistics at Cardiff University, said, “I have seen Tai Chi from somewhere before but never had a chance to do it, so when I saw this session I thought it would be a good opportunity to come and see what Tai Chi is like. And it was really relaxing and fun, I do want to learn more about it in future.”
“Every year we choose to introduce a different form of Chinese traditional culture during the Global Week, including Tai Chi, Calligraphy, Traditional Chinese Painting, and also Paper cuts.” said Li, “With the growing international influence of China, more and more people are interested in our country now. What we aim to do is to promote the communication between different culture through these events.”

The Confucius Institute at Cardiff University was launched in 2008 and has been working on conducting language and cultural exchange activities between China and the UK.
