With the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing hitting our screens last Friday, alt.cardiff set off to discover if ballroom dancing is old news or if it’s inspiring a new generation of ballroom beginners.

Teacher, Anne Watkins of Dance World in Newport, explains: “Ballroom is for everyone, regardless of age.”

She says that over the last five years she has seen more and more young people attending classes which she feels is good news for the ballroom community: “While my more senior dancers come to keep active both physically and mentally, younger people come here to socialise in a relaxed and friendly environment.”

In under an hour we learned some basic steps and that ballroom is more popular than ever.
