WOOL POWER: Welsh show great support for knitting campaign

Crafty folk in Wales have cast on their knitting needles to help fund support for vulnerable older people during the winter months.

Participants of the Big Knit Campaign 2013 have knitted thousands of miniature woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothie bottles and raise money for Age Cymru.

The hat-clad bottles will go on sale in November and for every drink sold 25p will go to the charity.

Iwan Rhys Roberts, a spokesman for Age Cymru, said:  “Money raised by the Big Knit helps Age Cymru provide services for older people right across Wales.

“We’ve had 42,051 hats sent in by the public – this is a fantastic achievement and we’re very grateful to the people of Wales for their support.”
