A Roath community food festival run in collaboration with social enterprise Green City will bring residents together to celebrate diversity and showcase local skills in June.
Following last year’s success, Shelley Garden’s Community Food Festival returns on June 21st.
Between 12am and 4pm the park on Milton Street will host hyperlocal food stalls, sustainability workshops, live music and circus displays.
As part of a joint initiative between Roath Residents Action Group and Green City who promotes sustainable living, food stalls will be run by restaurants and food producers from within a mile of the park and will provide affordable food for visitors.
Rebecca Clark, director at Green City, which promotes sustainable living said, “City Road is such a hub for different types of food with such a diverse community, the festival is about celebrating that diversity and promoting the area.” She went on to explain that, “All stall holders will be selling tasters for between 50p and £1.50 so that everyone can afford to join in.”

As well as food there will be a range of free workshops organised by Green City, and incorporating the skills of local people. These include home composting, food demonstrations and bee keeping.
Entertainment includes Spit and Sawdust skate ramps, hula and belly dancing, meeting chickens, and music from local acts including Stainless Steve and Cardiff Ukeleles.
The festival was organised as a result of community research by Luke Rice, area coordinator for Welsh Government organisation Cynefin, who are working to help foster communities in Cardiff.
With between 700-800 people attending last year, Luke said, “It was a real success all the traders an out of food and some had to restock 3 or 4 times. It’s not a big garden but where hoping to have as many, if not more people this year.”
