BBC axe Introducing in Wales

Welsh talent could suffer as BBC cut regional Introducing show

The BBC has decided to axe Radio 1’s late night show Introducing in Wales in a bid to reduce their budget by 20% over the next five years. The shows in Scotland and Northern Ireland will also be cancelled in favour of one centralised show.

The BBC have decided to axe Introducing in Wales and replace it with a centralised show

Introducing in Wales show-cases local bands and there is concern that local talent will suffer from these cuts.

However, the BBC maintained, “we will still champion undiscovered and unsigned talent from across the UK,” adding, “a BBC Introducing track will continue to feature in the daytime play-list every single week.”

Former show presenter Bethan Elfyn expressed dismay at its cancellation but conceded the BBC have to make cuts and commended their bravery in commissioning local shows in the first place.
