Tim Hortons to open second restaurant

Tim Hortons just opened, but the Canadian chain isn’t stopping there. A second location has already been acquired in the city

Tim Hortons has just opened its doors for the first time in Wales in Queens Arcade on Queen Street, and the Canadian coffee chain has already acquired a second property to open another outlet in the city.

Addington Capital revealed that the chain has purchased a second property on Working Street that was once home to the coffee and wine bar, Artigiano.

The Canadian coffee chain is planning to open many sites across the UK in a bid to tap the market here after branching out in the US.

The first Cardiff site is the second location in the whole of the UK after Tim Hortons opened a coffee shop in Glasgow earlier this year.

During the pre-opening event in Queen Street, Charlotte Clarke from the brand, PR and digital marketing agency, Spider, expressed her excitement, “This is a big event! We’re very excited to be opening the first Tim Hortons in Wales!”

Kevin Hydes, who is the chief finance and commercial officer of the Tim Hortons franchise in the UK, explained that the chain is thrilled to be opening in Cardiff.

“It’s a fantastic area and shares similar values with Tim Hortons – a strong sense of community and friendly culture,” Kevin said, before continuing, “the excitement we’ve seen for Tim Hortons has beaten all of our expectations.”

In a location that’s full to the brim with coffee shops such as Cardiff, Kevin explained that Tim Hortons always aims to be the leader in any market they enter.

Since the competition is so plentiful, they couldn’t disclose their business strategy going forward, but what Kevin could say speaks for itself, “If you consider many of our competitors have several hundred restaurants in this market that should give you some indication of our development plans.”
