The winner of reality television show RuPaul’s Drag Race, Aquaria, will be coming to Cardiff’s Glee Club 14 November as part of their Winner’s Tour.

Aquaria, who competed on the show’s 10th season, will present a full show with her American Dancers. As well as winning the show, the queen is also well known for being the drag daughter of Season 4 winner, Sharon Needles.

Cardiff has a lively LGBT community, with different gay bars and clubs across the city. It also has a lively drag community, including Nana Sparkles, the only queen to speak Welsh in the world.

In an interview with Wales Online, Nana says, “What I love about the job is being able to put a smile on so many people’s faces and they turn up at a show not knowing exactly what they’re going to see and when they leave they can’t believe how much they’ve enjoyed themselves. It’s about giving them a fantastic night of entertainment.”

Cardiff is known as one of the most LGBT friendly places, with Pride Cymru, the city’s Pride celebration, becoming the first Pride event in the UK to be accredited with a Silver Award by ‘Attitude is Everything”.

Bradley Birkholz, a local drag performer under the stage name, Bella Tempus, commented that “We have such a thriving community here, and even if I’m not getting the local jobs, I’m glad those jobs even exist and that other queens are getting those jobs, because there’s some really fierce and under appreciated talent here that deserves to go far.”

“The reaction is the same as any creative profession where somebody is a more local artist than a TV personality.” he continues. “It’s all a popularity contest really, and if people don’t like you, you won’t get jobs”.

Aquaria’s show begins at 8pm 14 November. Tickets are still available.
